Drunk Driver Arrested Following Collision in South LA

Los Angeles, CA (February 19, 2019) – A man who is suspected of drunk driving and causing a collision, that left 1 of his passengers in critical condition, was arrested hours after the early Sunday morning crash at his south Los Angeles home, February 19th. According to authorities, Wilfredo Vaquiz Escobar had been driving a white 2017 Honda Accord with 6 passengers traveling southbound on South Central Avenue. As Escobar approached East 33rd Street, he lost control of his vehicle colliding into 6 parked vehicles sometime around 2:40 A.M. CCTV footage retrieved from a nearby business captured the collision and showed the Honda Accord spinning completely around 4 times before it careens across the street slamming into the parked vehicles.

The vehicles were left severely damaged or totally destroyed. A passenger from the suspect’s vehicle was ejected from the Honda Accord and skidded about 80 feet before landing in the second lane that runs along an area of South Central Avenue just north of 33rd Street. The passenger was transported to a nearby hospital where they were treated for moderate injuries. They are expected to survive. Escobar could be seen in the CCTV footage fleeing the scene as officers arrived. Escobar was found at his South L.A. home and arrested around 8 a.m. Escobar was booked on suspicion of felony DUI causing injuries with his bail set at $100,000, according to police. He will be arraigned on Wednesday.
