Compton Crash at N. Wilmington Ave. Kills Two in Possible Street Takeover
COMPTON, CA (June 13, 2022) – Late at night on Sunday in Compton, a crash killed two people in a possible street takeover. The June 12 crash occurred where West Stockwell Street and North Wilmington Avenue intersect.
The time was roughly 11:42 p.m., Deputy Koerner said. Koerner is with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
According to a person who witnessed the incident, the two victims–described as females–had been traveling in a sedan, red in color.
During the suspected street takeover, the sedan was described as swinging or drifting around the intersection.
The witness was reported as saying one female had been hanging out of the car’s window when the car and an SUV collided.
The force of the crash threw the female from the car. She died at the crash site.
Her identity, including name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
Another female who had been traveling in the sedan also died, but she was not thrown from the car.
The identity of the person has also not been reported.
According to investigators, one of the females who was killed in the crash was the driver of the car.
Reports say the person who had been driving the SUV conveyed he did not know what was happening in the intersection as he approached it. According to the driver, the light was green for him.
He was identified as Treyshawn Cooley. Reports do not say if Cooley was hurt in the crash.
Investigators are continuing their work on the incident.
